Titans announce GCJRL ambassadors

iSelect Gold Coast Titans players today joined a group of youngsters from the Gold Coast Junior Rugby League for a special photo shoot at Skilled Park to officially launch the club’s ambassador program for 2013.
Towering Titans duo Nate Myles (Burleigh Bears) and David Taylor (Coomera Cutters) are among the group of players that will become ambassadors for each junior club in the Gold Coast area for 2013.
The Titans-GCJRL Ambassador Program will see iSelect Titans players working closely with the local junior teams by attending club activities and events throughout the season.
Fittingly, local juniors Jordan Rankin (Burleigh) and Steve Michaels (Mudgeeraba) are linked with the junior club at which their rugby league career began.
Queensland State of Origin forward Nate Myles said forming closer ties with the local junior rugby league clubs was a great fit for all parties.
“I think grass roots around here on the Gold Coast, and anywhere, is really important,’’ said Myles.
“We’ve got such a good breeding ground for young kids coming through so making the most of that is very important.
“We didn’t have that many of these opportunities growing up in Gordonvale and Cairns but as the Cowboys came in to the competition we went to a few camps down that way in Townsville and it was good to be a part of their environment. You got to see some of those players like Stevie Walters and those sort of blokes which was pretty fun.’’
Blackwater Crushers product Dave Taylor is the ambassador for new GCJRL club Coomera Cutters and said he had been impressed by the Titans’ focus on fostering relationships within the Gold Coast community since joining the club in November.
“We never had anything like this when we were little so to be able to put some smiles on the faces of the little kids and to have them here today is a great opportunity for us,’’ said Taylor.
“I’ve only been here at the Titans for a couple of months now and we’ve done a fair bit of work with the young kids – they’re the future and they’re the ones who are going to be stepping into our boots when we leave so we want them loving the game just like we did when we were little.’’
