The iSelect Gold Coast Titans fell short in a second half comeback attempt in a 38-20 loss to the Manly Sea Eagles at Brookvale Oval today.
Despite producing a second half fightback to reduce a 24-10 halftime deficit to just eight points with 15 minutes remaining, the Titans were unable to finish it off as the Sea Eagles scored two late tries to run away with the victory.
A lapse in defence midway through the opening half cost the Titans dearly in the end as the Sea Eagles scored four tries in 12 minutes to establish a 24-10 lead at the break.
The Titans rallied in the second half with tries to winger Kevin Gordon, his second for the day, and Aidan Sezer to reduce the margin to 28-20 with 15 minutes remaining.
Showing more urgency in defence, the Titans looked set to repel the Sea Eagles and finish over the top of them after holding the home side out for four consecutive sets of six on their own line.
But the Sea Eagles landed the killer blow when Nick Skinner picked up the scraps from a crossfield kick to score with five minutes remaining before Jorge Taufua scored in the dying minutes to blow the final winning margin out.
