iSelect Gold Coast Titan Jamal Fogarty scored 15 points which helped lead the Tweed Head Seagulls to a 35-24 victory against the Central Queensland Capras, the Seagulls’ 12th win in a row.

Fogarty says the success of this team’s season is attributed to the attitudes of the players.

“We’re just enjoying each other’s company at training and making it as fun as possible,” Fogarty said. “Our training has been the same all year, we have times where we joke around and have fun, and then we have times where we know we have to be switched on and doing what we need to be doing.”

The Capras, who for much of the season have started each game off strong, and they did the same in this game, scoring two early tries and leading 12-0 in the first 14 minutes. However, this sparked the Seagulls into action, sparking them to score four tries before the half ended. Three of these happened in the last seven minutes of the half.

“We know that when we play the Capras they come off firing for the first 10 minutes,” said Fogarty. “When they were up 12-nil we knew we had to hold onto the ball and get switched on. We know the points will come, so we stuck to our structure and the points did come.”

These points came from a try by Fogarty after regaining his own kick, Michael Burgess who ran right down the middle after a quick pass from Fogarty, and from a fumble by the Capras which allowed Burgess to pick up his second try.

Besides a strong performance from the Seagulls, Capra’s Hughie Stanley, who was playing his first game in the centres, scored a hat-trick.

“He scored a well-executed try off a tap set; he definitely played a lot better on the centres than the last time we played them when he was on the wing,” Fogarty added.

Fogarty finished the game with a try, five goals and a field goal.

“For me, it’s mainly just the goalkicking. The boys have been scoring so close to the goal, making it easier for me.”

The Tweed Head Seagulls travel to Barlow Park this Sunday to take on Northern Pride at 12:30 pm.
