In this instalment of Swifty’s Community Corner, our game and community development department set up camp at Coomera Springs State School last Tuesday before heading to Recreation Park at Tweed Heads on Wednesday. The latter half of the week saw the boys at Runaway Bay Sports Centre before finishing the week over the border at St James Primary School.

Tuesday saw Daniel and Anthony return to Coomera Springs State School to run a coaching clinic and conduct the Titans Tackle Bullying program. Daniel and Anthony had the year six and seven classes out on the oval first up with the children participating in a variety of different rugby league drills including kicking and passing.

At the conclusion of the clinic, the boys headed inside to run the ‘Titans Tackle Bullying’ program with the year one classes. The program is designed to reinforce the impact that bullying has on an individual and encourages the children to make the right choices.

On Wednesday, Sam travelled down to Recreation Park at Tweed Heads for the Family Centre Teddy Bear Picnic. Sam mingled with the crowds of families before running a mini coaching clinic for the small kids. The event coincided with Child Protection Week and aimed to raise awareness, provide education and promote the protection and well-being of children in our local community.

Thursday saw Daniel and Anthony in attendance at the Runaway Bay Super Sports Centre for the Special Children’s Athletics Day. Preston and Toops also dropped in as the boys mingled with the children and cheered them on in their events before playing games and handing out posters. Daniel and Anthony were amazed at the level of courage and commitment on display and had a great time.

The boys rounded out the week at St James Primary for the culmination of the Titans weekly visits to the school. Our trio of trainees ran a coaching clinic reinforcing the skills that have been taught in recent weeks before splitting into groups for a variety of fun games.

Everyone had a great time and the weekly visits were a great success with St James Primary looking forward to their next visit from the Titans.
