Queensland Origin champion and iSelect Titans foundation assistant coach Trevor Gillmeister has passed the 1000km mark three weeks into his Townsville to Brisbane walking trek.
Gilly will walk into Bundaberg this afternoon after hitting the 1000k mark yesterday and will enjoy a well-earned third day off (all Saturdays) since leaving Townsville three weeks today.
He has been nursing a sprained ankle since the fourth day but battled on in true Gilly fashion and is well on the way to his $100,000 fund-raising target for asbestos cancer awareness.
Along the way he has had State of Origin legends as Allan Langer, Matt Scott, Brent Tate, Jason Hetherington, Gary Larson, John Cartwright, Martin Lang, Alan McIndoe and Mark Hohn step some of his 1450km course with him, with the Queensland FOGS providing great support.
No doubt Gilly will be putting his feet up and watching the Caulfield Cup tomorrow and having the odd beer and bet.
He has been taken into homes, given meals, had meet and greet evenings at several towns and done dozens of media interviews along the way.
