Having first choice halves Aiden Sezer (13 games played) and Albert Kelly (12) miss close to half the season each certainly did not help the Titans’ potency with the ball.
But stats across the NRL show where the side can improve:
Our completion rate was the worst in the league on 68 per cent, ahead of Wests Tigers on 70 per cent. The best were Melbourne and Newcastle on 76 per cent, ahead of Penrith on 75 per cent, so there was a discrepancy of seven per cent across the board, which amounts to probably two sets per game.
In line breaks we were last with 75 for the season with the Sharks next with 82, while the leaders were Sydney Roosters with 122.
We were second last with 58 tries, behind Cronulla with 64; the Roosters again led with 127.
We were down with tackle breaks too, the lowest with 520, however this is not always a telling stat with finalists Melbourne, who score a lot of tries from kicks, next with 550.
However we second in the NRL with offloads with 301 with, ironically, wooden spooners Cronulla the best with 305.
