The Aquis Gold Coast Titans under-15 development squad was impressive yesterday in beating a Balmain under-15s team at Cudgen.
The young Titans won three tries to two against a committed Balmain Tigers team in front of a good crowd that included Titans head coach Neil Henry and assistant coach Terry Matterson.
The first half was a tough affair with both sides scoring a try apiece with Titans lock Blake Campbell scoring his team’s try.
In the second half the Titans boys had a strong wind at their backs and were able to apply some good pressure on the back of the kicking game of halfback Daejaun Asi.
Big David Butler was first to score in the second half with Ronan Kapi scoring minutes later, putting the Titans out to a comfortable three tries to one lead. To their credit Balmain fought to the end, collecting a try late in the game to make the final score three tries to two (there were no conversion kicks taken) in the Titans’ favour.
Tigers legend Paul Sironen was on hand to select what he believed to be the best Titans back and forward from the game. He chose Jackson Neil (hooker) and Ronan Kapi (centre).
Some more great action takes place at Pizzey Park tomorrow as players who have been participating in our Titans development squads, Titans Academy, Titans High Performance Unit (HPU) and players that we have invited to trial show their wares.
