Jade Elliott is a familiar face around the Titans – a devoted teenage fan who is often at Saturday morning’s ‘captain’s run’ session and in the dressing room after matches. Players regularly stop to chat to her.

And two of the Aquis Titans most popular players – Luke Douglas and Matt Srama – were thrilled to repay her for that support when they escorted Jade to her year 12 formal … bringing tears to the eyes of her family and friends at Jade’s delight.

Jade, who is wheelchair bound as she suffers Duchenne muscular dystrophy, attends Mudgeereba Special School.

Srama said he had a wonderful night and was more than happy to be a joint ‘date’ with Douglas.

“Jade has been a supporter for quite a while and we always see her after a game and she is smiling whether we won or lost,” he said.

“We had a great night and it was worth it just to see the smile on her face.”

Douglas, the NRL’s Ken Stephen Medal winner, said he regarded it as an “honour” to be there. “It was just great to be able to do that for Jade and see how happy she was and the other students were a bit in awe of her.”

Jade’s mother Kate says succinctly: “It was the best day of Jade’s life.”

“When I saw Matt there I just started to cry because if she is happy, we’re happy,” Kate said. “It was a highlight seeing them there, they were brilliant.”
