Aquis Titans back John Olive has today returned from Junior Kangaroos camp after suffering a serious shoulder injury during training this week.

The 19-year-old, signed from South Sydney in March, has complex fractures of his collarbone and will be sidelined for an extended period.

He suffered the injury when simply diving into the corner for a ‘try’ during an opposed session against Samoa.

While x-rays have confirmed the fractures, he will have further scans on the Gold Coast today.

Fellow Titans player Brian Kelly, who was initially selected as 18th man, will take his place against the Junior Kiwis who include two Titans under-20s players, Greg Leleisiuao and Kurt Bernard. The game is being played before the two Pacific Tests at Parramatta Stadium tomorrow.

“It’s pretty disappointing obviously, I was looking forward to wearing the green and gold jersey but injuries are part of the game so I just have to work hard as I can to get back,” Olive said.

“It was pretty simple how it happened, I just dived over in the corner and fell on it awkwardly.”

Olive played four NRL games with the Titans this season after making his debut for South Sydney last year.

He has signed with the club for the next two seasons and is part of the club’s new generation that includes his three fellow junior internationals and the last two Holden Cup players of the year, Kane Elgey and Ash Taylor.

John is certainly unlucky to suffer the injury at training when I know he was very much looking forward to representing his country,” said coach Neil Henry.

“But these things happen in footy and hopefully will recover quite quickly and be pushing towards first grade spot later in the season. He is one of several good young players who have a big future at our club.”
