Aquis Titans lock Greg Bird has no illusions about how tough the trip to Townsville will be against a Cowboys side to be led by an in-form Johnathan Thurston.

Sporting stitches over his right eye from a head clash from a head clash in the Panthers game, Bird was one of several Titans players who faced the media today ahead of Saturday's important final fling against the Cowboys in Townsville with a finals spot the reward from a victory.

"We don't want to leave our fate in other people's hands so we want to go up there and play as good as we can and hopefully remain in the top eight," Bird said.

"The Cowboys have probably been hot and cold over the past six or seven weeks but they are going to be at their best at their home stadium playing for a top four spot.

"We have to take everything out of the equation and do what we can do, what's been working for us and copeting our sets."
