The Aquis Gold Coast Titans are pleased to announce the signing of English forward, Joe Greenwood, effective immediately, through until the end of 2019 whilst prop forward Zeb Taia will depart the club, to join St Helens in the English Super League.

Greenwood, currently plays for St Helens in the English Super League and has made 77 appearances since making his debut back in season 2012. During that time he has scored on 26 occasions with a career points tally of 104 points.

The 23-year-old is a rangy back rower who stands at 190cm and tips the scales at 105kg and will move to Australia in the near future, commencing his three year stay.

With the addition of Greenwood, the club has released Taia who will join St Helens on a three-year deal, through until the end of 2019.

The 32-year-old spent just the one season with the Titans, playing 24 games in season 2016. In what looks like his final stint in the NRL, the front row forward played 131 NRL games, with Newcastle, Parramatta and the Gold Coast after debuting back in 2006.

Titans COO Tony Mestrov is happy with the outcome.

“We were excited about Joe joining us for seasons 2018 and 2019 but to be able to do a deal and have him at the club this season is a good result,” Mestrov said.

“He adds some size to our forward pack and will provide some good impact on the edges.

“Hopefully we can get him here relatively quickly and he will be pushing for an NRL start in the near future.

“In relation to Zeb, he is a quality individual and someone who provided great leadership in and around the playing group. It’s disappointing to lose him but he has the opportunity to prolong his career in the English Super League and we wish him well for the future.”

Coach Neil Henry applauded the efforts of Taia last year.

“Zeb wanted to prove last season that he was still able to perform in the NRL and he certainly did that, playing in every game except the finals fixture,” Henry said.

“He was a regular mainstay in our starting 13 last season and he provided great leadership both on and off the field.

“I’d like to wish Zeb, Nikki and their young family all the best for the future. I’m sure he will be a strong addition to the St Helens playing roster.”
