Since becoming Head Coach, Garth Brennan has been looking with intent at his playing group and has been suitably impressed with what he has seen.

In just his first couple of days, Brennan was asked if Ryan James would continue as club captain and the former policeman said a decision would come once he had got to know the entire group, based on who he believed was the best fir for the role.

“There are some real natural leaders in the team,” Brennan said. “Kev Proctor is one that leads, Peatsy is a leader.

“Ryan’s a natural leader, he’s born and bred here, he’s passionate about the club and it means a lot to him.

“I can’t really see why it would change but it’s something I’ll look at over the next few months.”

Whether the team would have a say or whether it’d be his decision, the Coach was pretty clear.

“It’ll be something I’m comfortable with. I’ll speak with Graham Annesley and the new owners but the players won’t get a vote.

A young gun who has impressed Brennan since his arrival is halfback Ash Taylor.

“Ash has shown some good qualities and who’s to say he can’t be a leader in the future at this club.

“I think you can rule him out for next year but he’s someone who could do more in the future.”
