Hulking forward David Taylor says he’s focussed on getting his injured calf muscle 100 per cent right for the start of the season and won’t be pressuring himself into proving his fitness for the Auckland Nines or pre-season trial matches.

Taylor has been back out on the field at Titans training this week after spending the past two months sweating it out in the club’s altitude chamber at Titans HQ as Titans coaching and medical staff erred on the side of caution with a niggling calf injury.

The towering forward has looked fit training with the rehabilitation group in a sign that he may be ready to tackle the inaugural Auckland Nines tournament from Feb 15-16 or the club’s pre-season trial matches against the Warriors (Feb 9) and Cowboys (Feb 22).

However, while Taylor says he would enjoy playing at the Nines, he remains firmly focussed on getting his body right for Round 1 against the Cronulla Sharks on Monday, March 10.

"I'm happy just to get on the paddock and train at the moment, I'm not looking that far ahead,'' said Taylor.

"I'd love to play in the Nines, that would be awesome tournament to play in , but I've just to get my body right and make sure I'm right for the start of the season and not just ready for a trial match.''
