Record-breaking iSelect Titans front-rower Luke Douglas has added further stability to John Cartwright’s squad by committing himself to a further three years with the Gold Coast outfit, on the heels of recent re-signings Kevin Gordon and Ryan James.
The 27-year-old from Yamba on the NSW North Coast is in his third season with the Titans and the contract will give him the opportunity to join one of the rare group of players to have played 100 first grade games for two clubs, after he had made 146 appearances for the Sharks. If he plays against Wests Tigers at Cbus Super Stadium on Sunday, it will be his 50th appearance for the Titans.
“Luke is a valuable member of our side and he has shown his loyalty by remaining here when he could have earned more money elsewhere,” said coach John Cartwright.
“He gives enormous value to the team not just in the amount of games he plays but the commitment he gives on and off the field; he’s professional in every aspect in the way he approaches the game.”
Douglas joins an array of iSelect Titans to be secured to at least the end of the 2015 season, which highlights the depth and stability of the side. Others include fellow forwards Ryan James, Ben Ridge, Dave Taylor, Greg Bird and Nate Myles and backs Gordon, David Mead, Will Zillman, Aidan Sezer and Albert Kelly.
The Scottish international, Douglas, will undergo an ultra-sound on his injured thumb tomorrow and the medical staff will monitor his progress but he is hopeful of adding to his record 195 successive appearances against Wests Tigers at Cbus Super Stadium on Sunday (2pm) and edge towards his next milestone, 200 NRL appearances.
The round two home match is part of the NRL’s members round, celebrating the support club members provide to their clubs. The Titans will run out to a guard of honour provided by 30 of our members. The Titans are ahead of last year’s member numbers at this stage of the season and closing in on the target of 10,000 members for 2014.
It’s not too late to become a Titans member with packages from $210 per adult which includes attendance at all home games or four-game packages for $190 as a ‘Legion’ member and from $85 for a family of four.
