The iSelect Titans under-20s have gone down to a very good St George Illawarra Dragons team 42-16 at WIN Jubilee Stadium today after starting well and scoring the first try of the match.

The Dragons were too big and classy as they retained a high completion rate and kicked well, and had the size to power over for eight tries.

After staving off several Dragons attacking raids in the first 10 minutes deep into Titans territory, the visitors were first to open the scoring with a brilliant try to five-eighth Deacon Fletcher try. It began with an offload by prop Mitch Sharp to Kane Lawton near halfway. Connors scooted clear and kicked to the right and Fletcher toed the ball through and got the ball down in the right corner.

The Titans were regular posing questions to the Dragons defence but possession and momentum shifted towards the home side and didn’t change before half-time.

Dragons fullback Matt Dufty scored next after opening up space on the Titans’ left edge for the Dragons to hit the lead 6-4 with Shannon Cook’s conversion.

After a break down left flank by winger Leigh Higgens, the ball swept to the right in the next ruck and the other winger Silveni Moceidreke scored for 10-4.

The Dragons were in again in the first set from the kick-off. It began with fullback Dufty bursting through the centre of the field. Three rucks later big second-rower Wes Lolo steamrolled his way over the line for Crook to convert for 16-4.

The Dragons had all the momentum by this stage and scored a fourth first-half try when Moceidreke scored his second try from an overlap on the right. Right on half-time the Dragons went from a scrum win 10m from their own line to a try with five seconds remaining through centre Euan Aitken after rolling forward too easily through some of their big men to give the Dragons a 24-4 half-time lead.

It took just five minutes of the second half for the Dragons to extend their lead when hooker Hayden McCrae sneaked over from close range to make it 30-4.

The Titans spoiled their best scoring opportunity since the opening minutes when centre Shaun Hudson did well to crack the line but with two men inside unmarked elected to keep the ball and the chance went begging, even though he received a penalty for the tackler holding on. Possession was lost in the next set.

Midway through the half prop James Iodice showed great strength and determination to take three tacklers over the line and get the ball down, with Kane Elgey’s conversion making it 30-10.

Zac Spring scored after the Dragons turned the ball over in their own half and Kane Elgey converted from near the right touchline for 30-16. Deacon Fletcher dropped the kick-off but the Titans had a reprieve when a possible try was called back for a forward pass.
