Titans head coach Neil Henry confirmed today that Queensland State of Origin rep Nate Myles will be the team’s captain in 2015.

Myles and Greg Bird were co-captains for the previous two seasons but Bird was stood down from the captaincy in December.

Henry said today, when asked by the media about the captaincy, that he had no hesitation in the role reverting to Myles who is a natural leader at the Titans and keen to have a large impact in the 2015 campaign after off-season surgery will ensure he is fit and keen for the start of the NRL campaign against Wests Tigers on March 7.

“I didn’t see any reason for a formal announcement but I can confirm Nate will be captain in 2015,” Henry said.

“He was co-captain with Greg and I see no reason to look any further. Nate enjoys the role and I feel he has grown as a leader and will do an outstanding job.”

Neither Myles (shoulder/bicep) or Bird (knee) will play in the opening trial match against the Warriors at Toowoomba this Saturday night (7pm kick-off) but are expected to be fit for the final trial match against North Queensland in Cairns on February 21.

While several players may be rested because of injury, a strong side will go to the Darling Downs. Some key senior players will combine with several who are trying to land contracts or establish their NRL claims including young halves Kane Elgey and Christian Hazard and hooker Kierran Moseley who performed well in the Auckland Nines.

Others like Ben Ridge, Ryan James and Kevin Gordon may also start their 2015 seasons after missing the last few rounds of 2014.

The side will be announced on Wednesday morning.
