Centre James Roberts has scored three tries, two from intercepts, in a magnificent 38-16 victory over the Parramatta Eels at Pirtek Stadium.

The Titans were behind 16-12 at half-time but ran away with the match.

The Titans again started well, as they did against the Broncos the previous weekend, and scored first through Dave Taylor who steamed onto a good flat pass at the line from Aidan Sezer. Sezer’s conversion made it 6-0 Titans after 11 minutes.

The scores were levelled at 6-all after 21 minutes when Danny Wicks scored from close range after Taylor miraculously stopped a try the set previous when Anthony Watmough looked certain to score.

James Roberts intercepted a looping Watmough pass and ran 25 metres out and Sezer’s conversion from under the posts gave the Titans a 12-6 lead.

But the Eels struck back quickly, with Reece Robinson in three minutes later when Corey Norman split the ruck, held off Sezer and fed Folau who put Robinson in.

Three minutes before half-time Will Hopoate gave the Eels the lead for the first time when he was put into space on the right and pushed off Kane Elgey then Will Zillman and took Anthony Don over the line. Sandow missed time for the home side to lead by four at the break.

Then came Roberts’ two tries that changed the match.

He ran a good straight line off a long ball from Sezer and couldn’t be stopped from 20 metres and then recorded his second intercept try of the match, but this time a 90-metre effort. He waited for a pass from Nathan Peats as he ran crabwise and leapt high and took off and no one can catch this speedster when he gets open field.

Sezer converted from under the posts and within 11 minutes the Titans had gone from 16-12 behind to 24-16 in front.

The result was probably sealed with 14 minutes to go. Ryan James, who had seen little space, charged onto another good Sezer pass and he found Kane Elgey who brilliantly offloaded to Sezer. He was tackled but Ryan Simpkins fed a straight running Zillman at dummy half and he crossed from five metres.

Sezer’s fifth goal made it 30-16. And they weren’t finished there.

David Mead scored in the right corner after finishing well when fed by Roberts for 34-16.

Titans 38 (Roberts 3, Taylor, Zillman, Mead, Don tries; Sezer 5 goals) beat Parramatta 16 ( Wicks, Robinson, Hopoate tries; Sandow 2 goals).
