Kalifa Faifai Loa sent a timely reminder of his quality to Titans’ coach Neil Henry over the weekend, scoring two tries in Tweed Heads' 22-12 loss to Wynnum Manly.

Coming off the back of an impressive performance for the Queensland Residents, Kiwi international Faifai Loa was Tweed Heads’ most dangerous player, tirelessly roaming across field threatening to unlock Wynnum Manly’s defence.

Unfortunately for Tweed, Faifai Loa’s double wasn’t enough to overcome a clinical Wynnum Manly side.

“That was actually probably our better team performances for the year, I thought,” said Faifai Loa.

“We were in the game all day and the boys were trying to turn the game our way, we just came up against a quality Wynnum Manly side that were just too good for us.”

While Gold Coast Titans’ wingers Anthony Don (three tries in the loss to Canberra) and David Mead continue their good form in the NRL side, Faifai Loa continues to press his claims with his two tries from the weekend making it nine tries in his past four games (including the Residents' clash).

Titans’ pair Matt Srama and Jamal Fogarty controlled the game for Tweed when given the chance but were starved of opportunities as a dominant Wynnum Manly forward pack asserted their dominance on the match from the opening whistle.

It was a long day at the office in the other match featuring Titans’ players with competition leaders Townsville thumping Burleigh 78-6.

In a warning shot to the rest of the competition, the Blackhawks put on an offensive clinic to hand the Bears their biggest ever loss in the Intrust Super Cup. The game looked in the balance after both teams crossed early on, but it was one way traffic from there on with the home side scoring 14 tries in a row.

In what was a difficult day for all Burleigh players, Titans’ trio Kevin Gordon, Brad Tighe and David Hala battled hard in trying circumstances.

The Bears have a bye this weekend. Tweed Heads takes on top of the table Townsville Blackhawks on Sunday May at 1.40pm at Piggabeen Sports Complex.

“We were just never in the game and it just seemd to go from bad to worse,” said Gordon of the performance. The Blackhawks led 34-0 at half-time.

TOWNSVILLE BLACKHAWKS 78 (Kyle Feldt 3, Zac Santo 2, Jonathon Reuben 2, Nathan Norford 2, Robert Lui, Michael Parker-Walshe, Anthony Mitchell, Glenn Hall, Corey Jensen tries; Robert Lui 7, Kyle Feldt 4 goals) def BURLEIGH BEARS 6 (Ryley Jacks try; Tyler Chadburn goal) at Jack Manski Oval.

WYNNUM MANLY SEAGULLS 22 (Daniel Ogden, Matthew Grieve, Mitchell Buckett, Mitchell Frei tries; Matthew Seamark 3 goals) def TWEED HEADS SEAGULLS 12 (Kalifa Faifai Loa 2 tries; Jamal Fogarty 2 goals) at BMD Kougari Oval.
