A host of Gold Coast Titans players couldn’t help Tweed Heads stop the Townsville juggernaut as the Blackhawks continued their dominant form in an imposing 28-0 win over the Seagulls.

Despite a Tweed Heads side containing in-form Titan’s hooker Matt Srama and try scoring machine Kalifa Faifai Loa, the top of the table Blackhawks managed to keep the Seagulls scoreless for the full 80 minutes.

Gold Coast Titan Matt Robinson worked tirelessly in the second row, but said despite a decent showing, Tweed were simply beaten by a better team on the day.

“We didn’t play too badly but they are a really good side and defensively didn’t give us much opportunity and completed their sets really well,” he said.

“Matt Srama as excellent at dummy half and is in good form.

“It was a good measure for us of where we’re at, they are definitely the yardstick.”

After going into the break down 16-0, the Seagulls came out in the second half looking much more threatening, but were left to lament continual poor fifth tackle choices.

Although not as clinical in attack as previous weeks, the Blackhawks defence was typically resolute, continually suffocating any Tweed Heads attack.

Titans pair Jai Ingram and Davin Crampton worked hard against quality opposition and will look to build on solid outings.

In a successful ploy by Seagulls coach Aaron Zimmerle, winger Kalifa Faifai Loa was switched to lock midway through the first half (he returned to the wing in the final 20 minutes) and was particularly dangerous, making a break that almost led to a try.

Tweed Heads now sit in eighth position on the Intrust Super Cup ladder. They take on the Ipswich Jets at North Ipswich Reserve 3pm Saturday while Burleigh Bears play Mackay Cutter at Pizzey Park (2pm Sunday).

TOWNSVILLE BLACKHAWKS 28 (Zac Santo, Mosese Pangai, Robert Lui, Anthony Mitchell, Kelepi Tanginoa tries; Kyle Feldt 4 goals) def TWEED HEADS SEAGULLS 0 at Piggabeen Sports.
