JUNIOR CLUB: Mudgeeraba Redbacks

COACH BEN WOOLF’S TAKE: “Hayden’s been one of our big improvers this year, he’s a good line-running back-rower with a good work ethic.”

Q: What’s it like playing with your twin brother at the Titans?

A: We’ve played together all our lives so it’s good to be able to do it at the Titans too, it’s always good fun. There’s definitely a connection out on the field between us, it’s hard to explain but I’m always aware of where he is. I definitely notice when he doesn’t play, it feels different; it’s been good playing with him for the Titans.

Q: Under-20s coach Ben Woolf identified you as one of the big improvers this season, what is that you think you’ve improved on?

A: I’ve been working really hard for a while now on my defence. All pre-season and last year I was focusing on that and trying to improve it, so that’s probably had an impact. I’m still working on it now, it’s still a big focus. I’ve also been working on my line-running and positioning as well, so there’s been a few things I’ve been focusing on for a while now.

Q: Why were the New Zealand Warriors your favourite NRL side growing up?

A: My Mum’s from New Zealand so all my family went for the Warriors, so it went from there really and I supported them.

Q: Are you studying or working? How do you go balancing work at football?

A: I’m doing an electrical apprenticeship so some days it can be hard with the early starts then going to training, but it’s generally pretty good. My boss is flexible and really supportive, so it’s never any trouble getting to training, overall I think the balance between footy and work is good.
