NAME: Brian Kelly

POSITIONS: Centre, Wing

DATE OF BIRTH: 20-6-1996

JUNIOR CLUB: Ballina Seagulls, Lennox Heads Dolphins

WEIGHT: 92kg.  HEIGHT: 182cm

COACH BEN WOOLF’S TAKE: “Brian is a strong-running elusive outside back with a very strong carry out of his own end of the football field with a good ability to break tackles.”

Q: Are you working or studying?

A: I’m a teacher’s aide at Mudgeeraba Creek state school. I started there at the start of the year so I’m only six months into but I’m really enjoying it so far. The working hours suit footy training perfectly and it never clashes with games so it’s been really good.

Q: How have you found the 2015 season so far?

A: I’ve been pretty lucky, I’ve only had one injury and then to play Origin under-20s was a big thrill. It would have been good to win a few more games, but it's been a good season.

Q: You have eight siblings, what was it like growing up in a big family? Did it have an impact on your football?

A: I’ve got five sisters and three brothers but most of them are older than me so it was never too busy at home. It wasn’t too bad, I enjoy having a big family

Q: Describe the experience of playing under-20s Origin at Suncorp and scoring four tries.

A: It’s definitely the highlight of my career so far, it was the first time I’d ever been to an Origin game so that was exciting, but to be able to play before the main game was awesome too. It was a great experience and one I’ll never forget.

Q: What are you main interests away from rugby league?

A: Growing up in Ballina, I love the beach. I love going for a swim in summer and even just relaxing at the beach in winter. So it’s great having it so close by. Other than that, any time away from footy I just like to relax and watch a few movies.

Q: Is there any teammate that has particularly impressed you this season?

A: Zac Spring is really underrated, I think he’s one of our best when he’s fit, he’s usually out there on the other wing. Shaun Hudson is also great with all his experience and leadership.

Q: What one area of your game would you most like to improve for next season?

A: Definitely my fitness. I lost a bit of fitness with my knee injury and then I was straight into Origin so I haven’t really had a chance to catch up. Getting fit in the off-season is a big focus of mine.
