The Aquis Gold Coast Titans' 2016 season is over on the field but plans have already started for the 2017 Mal Meninga Cup (under--18s) season.

Gold Coast Junior Rugby League last weekend held an open trial for 120 players to push their claims for selection in the 2017 Mal Meninga squads.

Titans elite player development unit manager Jamie McCormack was impressed with the quality of football on offer and said the trials had a good reputation for finding hidden talent.

"Over the years there has been players that have only played division two on the Gold Coast, and may not be seen as representative players but they come down and perform really well and get into our system and with another level of coaching and good players around them they rise to higher levels," he said.
