Today we continue we look back at the highlights of season 2016 and Indigenous Round for the Aquis Gold Coast Titans is always a special one but this year it had a little extra spark to it with one of the Gold Coast’s favourite sons, Preston Campbell, presenting the side with their playing jerseys prior to the match.

The Round 10 match against the Sydney Roosters supported the NRL’s Indigenous Round but also with the online auction after the match, proceeds from the jerseys and boots sold went to the Preston Campbell Foundation and Deadly Choices.

On the field it was a convincing win over the Roosters, with the home side running out 26-6 winners over the 2015 Minor Premiers in front of 9,363 fans at Cbus Super Stadium.

“It was a great night for the club on two fronts,” Campbell said. “The boys had a great game on the field but it was also a huge honour to present the side with their jerseys prior to the match.

It was also good to catch up with so many old friends that are still involved with the club or come to a few games from time to time.

“Being aboriginal myself I know how much it means and how important it is. There are a large number of indigenous boys at the Titans so hopefully they got a bit of a kick out of it.

“The Gold Coast is a special place for all indigenous people as it’s where the All-Stars concept took off and to have such a big day today dedicated to the aboriginal people was fantastic.”
