Tyrone Roberts holds a claim to fame that can never be beaten; he scored the first ever try in the inaugural Auckalnd Nines Tournament.

Now entering its fourth year, the Nines tournament is seen as a strong selection tool for cooaches, just weeks out from the opening round of the NRL Telstra Premiership season.

Aquis Gold Coast Titans half, Roberts, says the Nines is a great weekend, where the faster style of play suits his style of play.

"It's easier for us halves to make decisions," he said at this morning's 2017 Nines Jersey Launch.

"It's great to see so much young talent at the Nines, they get a chance and get to come through.

"I'm looking forward to the 2017 tournament ... can't wait."

The Titans finished semi-finalists in the 2016 Auckland Nines tournament but coach Neil henry is hoping to improve on that in 2017. He's announced Jarryd Hayne, Roberts, Kane Elgey and 2016 NRL Rookie of the Year Ash Taylor will all be a part of the club's Nine's squad if fit.
