Titans coach Neil Henry will wait until close to the commencement of the 2017 Telstra Premiership before deciding on who will lead the club next season and hasn't ruled out again employing a co-captaincy structure.
Although one of this year's co-captains, William Zillman, remains at the club his position in the team is by no means guaranteed, leaving Henry to ponder the leadership candidates amongst a squad with again plenty of new faces.
Reigning Paul Broughton Medal winner Ryan James is considered the front-runner to captain the club in 2017 but as he is likely to spend time off the field most weeks Henry is looking at spreading the leadership load.
While coaching the Cowboys Henry made Johnathan Thurston and Matt Scott co-captains and came into a Titans club as an assistant coach when Nate Myles and Greg Bird shared the duties before naming Zillman and Nathan Friend co-captains in 2016.
"If you go for a forward that's only on the field for 40 minutes there's merit there," Henry said of naming joint captains.
"You've got to nominate someone that the referees have to talk to and know who to address. That needs to be thought of.
"Obviously Ryan James, Kevin Proctor, Chris McQueen, Zeb Taia, there's experience out there and even the likes of Ash Taylor, Kane Elgey and Tyrone Roberts.
"There's a bit of time to worry about that. We've got a leadership group and I'm not that fussed with rushing into making a decision.
"It will only be before the season starts, maybe around the trial period a few weeks out."
Proctor won't join his new club officially until after the Christmas break while England international Dan Sarginson had his first ballwork session as a Titan on Tuesday.
With the likes of Jarryd Hayne, Nathan Peats and Konrad Hurrell still relative newcomers to the squad along with former Bronco Jarrod Wallace, Henry said that is important the playing group has input into who will lead them into battle each week.
"It's not just a coach's decision. The players need to be comfortable that it's the right person for the club," Henry said.
"We encourage leadership from everyone in the team anyway so it's a figurehead and a point of contact for media and things like that as a captain but I expect all the players can show some leadership at different times.
"We've got some players that have been part of some successful teams. Dan Sarginson coming in from Wigan won a competition, Kevin Proctor… Those guys have tasted success and know what it takes to win competitions.
"Hopefully that attitude rubs off on some of the younger players or the players that might be older and haven't experienced regular finals footy.
"They've experienced that and they need to take that into their training.
"They drive that as well and the ownership of the team rests with the players.
"They own the performances on the field and this group is really serious about doing that."
The Titans break for Christmas on Wednesday and will return to training on Wednesday, January 4 at their new Parkwood home.
