Titans TV caught up with Elite High Performance Manager, Jamie McCormack to discuss the junior representative season.
Q: We've had a change in concept for the Junior reps this year
A: The QRL decided that Burleigh Bears and Tweed Heads Seagulls should take over the running of the U/18’s Programme or Mal Meninga and also have an U/20’s State Wide competition early in the season so Burleigh & Seagulls have U/18 & U/20’s players playing in a junior Rep programme for 7 weeks where they will play 6 competition matches and Rd 1 was last weekend
Q: Burleigh played Redcliffe & Tweed played Ipswich how did both teams fair?
A: Mixed results for our junior reps on the Gold Coast. Burleigh Bears in the U/18’s was a really even contest but unfortunately went down to Redcliffe Dolphins. Unfortunately a bit of a lopsided score in the U/20’s, where Redcliffe took that game quiet convincing over the Burleigh Bears
Im sure they're a work in progress the U/20’s at Burleigh they have got a number of good players but it's going to take a week or two to come together.
Down at Piggabeen the Tweed Seagulls U/18’s got a victory 28 – 16 over the Ipswich Jets which was a very entertaining game but unfortantely a number of injuries came out of the game and I think we've got about four players on the injured list this weekend.
In the U/20’s it was a big scoring game to the Tweed Seagulls they won 60 points to 16 over the Ipswich Jets.
Q: Who are some players to watch in each of those teams?
A: Burleigh Bears in the U/20’s at the moment Blake Lenehan is back there playing some front row Ty Barry is there playing fullback so there is obvious;ly a couple of our contracted players are there to support the Burleigh Bears and they will be players to keep an eye on.
In the Tweed Seagulls U/20’s programme at the moment we have got a number of our fringe NYC players that are performing quite well. One of the young local products in Tyler Ingram, a centre, he’s playing really good football at the moment. Danny Harmshaw the young hookers he’s playing really well a number of those boys are playing some good football at the moment and are all putting some pressure on the NYC Squad
Q: Rd 2 this week where we off to and who are the teams playing?
A: The Burleigh Bears will have another tough game this week they have got the Noirths Devils coming to Burleigh on Saturday so they will be to really high quality games of football on the Gold Coast
The Tweed Seagulls are on a really big trip they are heading down to Melbourne to play Victoria because they are part of the QLD competiton as well, so the Tweed boys are in for a bit of a shock with a 6am flight out of Cololangatta and don’t get back until 6pm that night. I'm sure it's going to be a tough road trip down there againt the Victorian’s but im sure they will go well.
