The Aquis Gold Coast Titans would like to congratulate Mr Paul Broughton on receiving an Order of Australia Medal as part of this year’s honours' list.

A former rugby league football player, coach and club chief executive known as “the Godfather of Gold Coast rugby league”, Mr Broughton, 86, was the founding chairman of the Gold Coast Titans.

The Titans’ annual award for best and fairest player, the Paul Broughton Medal, is named in honour — which makes receiving the Medal (OAM) in the General Division in today’s Queen’s Birthday Honours List icing on the cake.

Mr Broughton OAM is honoured to have received the honour.

“My long life in rugby league has opened many doors,” he said.

“I am deeply grateful for the honour which reflects the contribution of so many others who have made my life so rewarding.”

CEO Graham Annesley congratulated Mr Broughton on behalf of the club.

“I have known Paul for many decades through our joint involvement in Rugby League. During his life-long commitment, Paul has always been an innovator driven entirely by developing and growing the game over and above any personal recognition for his efforts.”

“But this honour not only recognises Paul’s work in Rugby League, it is also a tribute to the many other community causes he has assisted throughout his life.”

“This award could not have gone to a more worthy recipient."
