He only arrived in the country a week before season kick-off but even Joe Greenwood admits he saw more NRL action this year than what he had originally thought he would.

The back rower was a late inclusion in the 2017 squad, with a player swap with Zeb Taia occurring straight away and the Englishman was thrown immediately into the action.

“I didn’t really expect it and thought I’d just ease into it,” Greenwood said. “I thought I’d get to know the group a bit more but there were a few injuries and I got a spot straight away.

“It took a couple of weeks (to feel comfortable) but as the weeks went on I think I got better. Once I felt comfortable it started to feel like home.”

Greenwood ended the season playing 22 matches and a lot of those as an 80-minute player on the Titans left-edge.

“I definitely see myself as an 80-minute back rower but of course that’s up to the Coach, he may want to use me as an impact type player. I do love playing the 80 minutes though.”

Although still hopeful of an England World Cup call-up, Greenwood will see the bonus of having a full pre-season here in Australia if the selection doesn’t eventuate.

“I’d love to build a better partnership with the guys around me. We were struck down by injury so there were a lot of changes.

“I need to work on my playing weight as well. I’d like to be heavier but need to keep my strength and fitness as that is also important. We’ll work on a few things in the pre-season.”
