With the departure of Jarryd Hayne, attention has now shifted to who will now wear the number one jersey in season 2018.
Speculation has begun with a number of names being thrown out there by journalists but Coach Garth Brennan says he won’t be rushed into a decision based on the sudden availability of space in the salary cap.
“Our recruitment strategy is going to be very selective and if there is a marquee out there that ticks the boxes, we are in a position that we can speak to them,” he said.
“Jarryd is one of 33 players we have in our squad. He’s an exceptional talent but I am excited about the guys we have got.
“I want to look within the Gold Coast area and there might be a superstar 18-year-old fullback on our doorstep.”
Apart from what may be available from within the local region or outside of the club, Brennan mentioned a number of players within the group who could be up to the challenge.
“Young Phillip Sami is an option, Tyronne Roberts-Davis is another and then there is Dan Sarginson as well who is capable of playing at the back.”
