Cowboys may bring big guns to shootout with the Titans

It will be lights, cameras and some overdue rugby league action for the Gold Coast Titans on Saturday when they take on the North Queensland Cowboys at Sunshine Coast Stadium in our first pre-season trial.

The game between the Queensland rivals will be the first hit-out for both clubs after what has been a gruelling pre-season.

With a family-friendly kick-off time of 5pm local time, Titans members and fans have plenty of opportunity to travel north for the day to see their team in action live.

Coaches Garth Brennan and Paul Green will each roll-out a large squad of players, rewarding them with some game time for their efforts over summer.

The Titans are likely to name their squad tomorrow (Wednesday) with Brennan set to unveil a younger squad, all of whom will be looking to impress ahead of the major trial the following week against the Broncos.

Cowboys Coach Green has hinted he may unleash some of the club’s biggest stars at Sunshine Coast to give his marquee players – possibly including new recruits and former Broncos Jordan Kahu and Josh McGuire – some game time.

The recent floods that devastated Townsville hampered the last two weeks of North Queensland’s pre-season training, and Green believes there may be some benefit in giving his senior players match time against the Titans.

The Titans will be busy in the local community in the days leading up to the match.

The traveling squad will visit the local hospital on Thursday afternoon, before then hosting an open training session at Sunshine Coast Stadium from 10am-11:30am on Friday morning.

For Titans members and fans unable to make the journey north for the game, the NRL’s cameras will be at the venue, with a live stream of the match available for viewing at titans.com.au from 5pm (Note: Viewers will need an NRL account to view the stream).
