Titans sign Knights forward

The Gold Coast Titans can today confirm the signing of Sam Stone from the Newcastle Knights, effective immediately.

Stone joins the club on an 18-month contract, through until the end of season 2020.

The 21-year-old was born on the Gold Coast but played his junior rugby league at the Valentine Devils and Lakes United in the Newcastle competition.

The edge back-rower burst on to the scene in season 2017. After coming through the NYC ranks at the Knights, Stone made his debut in Round 1 before going on to play 16 games that season.

Stone added a further two games in season 2018 to take his NRL career games tally to 18.

Titans coach Garth Brennan is happy another Gold Coast product is choosing to come home to continue his NRL career.

“While having spent a lot of his life in Newcastle, Sam was born on the Gold Coast and is coming ‘home’ in pursuit of a greater opportunity,” Brennan said.

“We have rotated a number of players through that back row position, and to bolster our squad with a specialist in that spot will only add depth to our squad.

“Sam has played NRL and knows what it takes to play at that level. I look forward to him joining the squad and working with him.”
