The TEDS u14 and u15 sides have finished their year on a high with victory in their respective matches last night at Piggabeen Sports Complex.

Off the back of their three-day camps at Lake Ainsworth, the u14 side faced a Northern Rivers invitational side and the u15 squad took on the Balmain Tigers Harold Matthews trial squad.

“We’ve had the guys in camp for three days and it’s been good to have a game to finish it off,” Academy Coordinator Matt Srama said.

“We had two really good wins which was very pleasing.”

The u14 squad was made up of players from Brisbane and the Gold Coast defeated the Northern Rivers side 32-10 in what was a highly entertaining game.

“The man-of-the-match was Devonte Vaivela.

“He comes from up north in our Logan catchment and was a stand out on the night.

“Across the board there are a lot of good players coming through.

“The next step for these young men is to come into the invitation-only elite academy so a lot of them put their hand up for that tonight.”

The u15 side faced a touring Balmain Tigers Harold Matthews squad and played for the inaugural Anthony Laffranchi Cup. Laffranchi played over 100 games for each club and was on hand to present the trophy to the winners.

“It’s very special,” Srama added.

“Obviously to have someone like Anthony who played for both clubs and obviously still involved at our club is great.

“It gives the guys something to play for.”

The young Titans were impressive throughout the entire match, claiming victory 34-16 in what was a very good game with plenty of talented players showing their stuff.

“Nick Hilton played really well and all of the outside backs played well as well.

“Both of our Tweed halves did well out there as well.

“It was good to see they implemented everything they learnt from the camp and took it into a match situation.”

The u16 (6:30pm) and u18 (7:45pm) TEDS squads take on QLD PNG tonight at Burleigh Seniors as their final match of the 2019 season.
