Phillip Sami has been true to his word. After re-signing with the Titans for a further two seasons on Tuesday, Sami said he would make his mission to ensure his fellow Gold Coast products AJ Brimson and Jai Arrow recommitted to the Club by extending their contracts beyond the end of 2020.

Speaking at a Schoolies Week activation with Titans partners DrinkWise and Red Frogs Australia, Brimson revealed that Sami had delivered on his promise, and had been hounding the fullback about putting pen to paper on a new deal.

“We have been definitely talking,” Brimson laughed. “I was hoping he stayed. He had to weigh up the options. He made the right decision I think, and I am really stoked to see him stay.

“I love playing with him – I’ve played with him for the past three or four years. We have a good connection on the field, so I was really happy to see him re-sign.”

The Australian 9s representative admits the reasons behind Sami’s decision to remain a Titan were also on Brimson’s checklist.

Which begs the question from Titans fans: When will Brimson be joining Sami in the re-signed brigade?

“My manager is working on it at the moment,” he said. “I am trying to focus on getting my fitness levels back up. I am having regular chats with him, but I am just trying to leave it up to him.

“He knows I have family here, and my main intention is to stay here on the Coast. He knows what is best for me, so I am just going to see what happens.

“I am not chasing anything in particular. I just want to be happy and see what is best for me from 2021 onwards.

“I think we will come to the right decision. But like I said, Gold Coast is home for me. That is the No.1 priority at the moment.”
