The restart

The Gold Coast will play six of their first seven games in Queensland, starting with a trip north to face the Cowboys in Townsville. They then host the Tigers at Suncorp Stadium, face the Rabbitohs at Bankwest Stadium in a rare trip to Sydney and return to Brisbane for four straight matches - starting with the Dragons and the Broncos.

Five key match-ups

Cowboys (Round 3, Queensland Country Bank Stadium; Round 13, Venue TBC): The 6-4 loss to their Queensland rivals really hurt in round 12 last season. It was their closest loss all year but would have been a victory if Tyrone Roberts and Ashley Taylor had landed two of their three missed goals.

Broncos (Round 7, Suncorp Stadium; Round 18, Venue TBC): These clubs are only separated by 90km of bitumen so the local derby no matter what year or round is only an hour's drive in either direction. The Titans stunned Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium last year, 26-18, but were beaten at home in the return match 34-12. Tyrone Roberts starred in that first win, with Brian Kelly scoring twice.

The best are coming back

Roosters (Round 12, Venue TBC): The 58-6 loss at the SCG in early August was the worst of the 20 defeats the Titans players endured last season. It was also the second-worst loss in the club's 12-year history, after a 54-point loss to the Broncos in 2017.

Sea Eagles (Round 19, Venue TBC): The comprehensive seven tries-to-three win in round 11 last season was the Titans' second straight win at Lottoland and their third consecutive victory over Manly. Despite Kane Elgey retiring in September there is still the remnants of a strong rivalry with Brian Kelly, Morgan Boyle and Brendan Elliot facing former teammates.

Knights (Round 20, Venue TBC): The Titans romped away to a 22-0 half-time lead in this round-six match last year. They kept the Knights at bay in the second half winning 38-14 scoring six fine tries, including a double to Tyrone Roberts. That kind of domination makes you want to repeat the effort the next season to show the first result wasn't a fluke.

It's game on

Toughest stretch

Between round 10 and round 15 the Titans have a rough run including games against 2019 minor premiers Melbourne, last year's grand final teams - the Roosters and Raiders, and talented outfits in the Panthers, Cowboys and Sharks. And unlike most years, those star-studded sides won't be missing Origin players in the middle of the season.
