Titans halfback Jamal Fogarty will lead the Gold Coast side out against the Canberra Raiders, named as the Club captain for the game.

Coach Justin Holbrook says Fogarty was an obviously choice to take on the role, with the number seven impressing with his leadership since joining the squad.

“I think he has just been a tremendous example for our squad, our team and our Club,” Holbrook said.

“For a guy that joined us late in the year, he has shown some great qualities and what he’s had to go through to get here (and obviously playing halfback helps so he is an obvious choice.

“The captain is the player that everyone is going to look to when things are tough and Jamal is a calming influence and that’s what you need.

“You need a guy who knows what to do next and he shows great traits of that and I’m really happy for him.”

Fogarty says it is an honour to take on the role.

“I was a bit shocked when Justin asked me this morning and I didn’t really know what to say back to him but I was excited and I’m really grateful that they came to me to lead the boys out this weekend,” he said.

“Especially being a local junior from the area, I’m quite privileged to get the opportunity.

“(I think a captain is) someone that leads with their actions and I think Kevvy (Proctor) has done that for us this year and I’m just going to try and do what he does and just lead with actions and hopefully I can do my role for the team.”
