Head to Head: Turbo & AJ

Tom Trbojevic is expected to make his long awaited return from injury when Manly host the Titans this weekend and it sets up a battle between two of the game’s most exciting fullbacks.

Titans fullback AJ Brimson has been brilliant since his return from injury, sparking the Gold Coast attack but also helping to organise the Titans defence.

In just seven games this season, Brimson has three tries and nine linebreaks, proving a threat every time, he has ball in hand.

While his offence is often spoken about, Brimson is operating at 91% tackle efficiency in season 2020 and has shown his value in defence.

The 22-year-old is forming a lethal partnership with the Titans spine, with halves Jamal Fogarty and Ash Taylor relishing having the Keebra Park product back in the team.

A long-term back injury saw him miss the start of the 2020 season, but since his return his form has many suggesting that 2020 could be the year he makes the Queensland State of Origin squad.

If he does earn a Maroons call-up, he could be facing his opposing number from Manly with Blues coach Brad Fittler confirming that Tom Trbojevic is in line for Origin selection despite missing a chunk of games through injury.

“Turbo” hasn’t played since round six, with a hamstring injury keeping the Manly fullback out of the game.

In his six appearances prior to injury, Trbojevic has four tries and four linebreaks and is considered one of the best attacking fullbacks in the game.

Despite being taller and heavier than his opposing number one, Brimson has the edge in a number of key stats so far this season.

The two provide a mouth-watering matchup, with their performances at the back to be crucial to their team’s chances of a win at Lottoland Stadium on Saturday.
