The Gold Coast Titans have tonight officially kicked off season 2021 in style at The Star Gold Coast.
There was a sense anticipation and energy in the room as nearly 500 members, partners, staff and dignitaries joined Justin Holbrook and his team in officially declaring the 2021 season open.
The night was hosted by Fox League personality Yvonne Sampson with key Titans personnel, Justin Holbrook (Head Coach), CEO Steve Mitchell, Captains Jamal Fogarty and Kevin Proctor all addressing the audience.
Titans Chairman, Dennis Watt, summed up the feeling of the room and club as he thanked the key people who support the Titans and rugby league, particularly across a challenging last 12 months.
The night was not about reflection, however, with Watt speaking of the pride that the club wants to instill in the the club and its community.
"As we have seen and experienced in the past 12 months, life often demands heroic responses," Watt said.
"Our players, coaches and staff believe that we can help show the way by ensuring that our efforts, on and off the field, are a genuine cause for pride."
Watt said it is important that the club remembers it is playing for its people and their city.
"During the off-season, Justin (Holbrook) arranged for a giant photograph of a packed Cbus Stadium to be placed on a wall of the players’ gym," Watt said.
"It is a daily reminder to players and staff that what we are doing here is about something far greater than ourselves."
"We want to pack the stadium and turn it into a fortress against visiting teams.
"But equally our team is playing for all the people in this room; our members, our sponsors, our fans, our families and for all those who support us in this great and historic rugby league heartland.
"Through high standards, exceptional effort and relentless energy, our goal is a simple one: To make you proud that the Gold Coast Titans are your team."
Justin Holbrook echoed Watts sentiment for what he wants for his team and his club.
"I just want to be proud," Holbrook said.
"I want everybody to walk around with their head held high.
"The players can feel that now as they walk around the city and I want them to have that.
"This whole region loves rugby league and they have been waiting for a reason to enjoy that again.
"We have hope and anticipation for the season and that is a good thing.
"(But) enough talk now though, I am ready for the games to start."
The night also celebrated the Titans JTS (Junior Titans Systems) programs, the club's work within the community through Titans Together and all that have got behind the Titans to get ready for season 2021.
