Future Titans 'Super Saturday' a success

The Future Titans took to the field last Saturday, giving Gold Coast fans a glimpse of the what the future holds for their side - there is plenty to like.

With five games across the 'Super Saturday' held at Burleigh there was a good mix of young men who are new to the system and those knocking on the door of the NRL.

Future Titans excite big crowd at Burleigh

Led by halfback and NRL Squad Development Player, Tom Weaver, over 4,000 fans saw first hand the results of a grueling pre-season for the Future Titans squad.

It wasn't just Weaver with the NRL experience though, as he was joined by fellow Australian Schoolboys representatives Jack Cullen and Ryan Foran in playing in the main game.

Titans' Elite Development Manager Jamie McCormack said that these games are important to their development and taking the next step.

"These boys have just come out of NRL pre-season and they are going to go back and try and force their way into Q-Cup at our affiliate clubs (Burleigh and Tweed) and then hopefully back into the NRL next year and then not too far away from actual full-time (in the NRL squad)," McCormack said.

For many of the older players in the Future Titans squad they don't have to look too far ahead to see what is possible with their own football careers.

"AJ Brimson, Jayden Campbell, Moeaki Fotuaika - those guys have come through our programs and become NRL and Origin players and it inspires the next generation when they can see what is possible for them on their journey also," McCormack said.

"These players will now also go back to their respective clubs, but they will reform for a number of games across the year including the Under 19s taking on the North Queensland Cowboys at Cbus Super Stadium later in the year, which is exciting."

While the day is exciting from an on-field perspective, it is also the first chance for the Gold Coast community to see some Titans football for the year and even out at a big event after a disrupted Christmas period.

"On top of that it is just a great day for our community and to see the talent coming through," McCormack said.
