Injury opens the door for young gun

An injury to an experienced Titan has forced Justin Holbrook to make a late change to the squad facing the Brisbane Broncos in Saturday's first trial match at Cbus Super Stadium.

Indigenous All Stars representative Will Smith had initially been named to make his club debut after joining the Gold Coast from Parramatta in the off-season, but the handy utility has failed the mandatory return to play protocols after a heavy head knock in last Saturday's clash.

This paves the way for youngster Tom Weaver to get his first opportunity in the blue and gold after joining the Titans on a development contract till the end of the 2024 season.

The 18-year-old playmaker captained the Tweed Seagulls to last year's Mal Meninga Cup under 18 title before lighting up the NRL Schoolboy Cup competition with Palm Beach Currumbin, dominating in the halves as the Reds put 62 points on St Brendan's College in the 2021 Queensland final.

Tickets are still available for the highly-anticipated clash!
