Play Something Unreal Festivals update

Rugby league, put simply, is the greatest game of all.

"Playing rugby league for a local club is a great way for kids to build their confidence, make new friends, learn new skills and above all else have fun," NRL state development manager for Queensland Matt Palin said.

The NRL, with support from Queensland Rugby League, is running a series of Play Something Unreal Festivals to showcase the game and encourage young Queenslanders to get involved.

“After two heavily interrupted years, community rugby league is back and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome boys and girls of all ages and abilities to sign up at their local club," Palin said.

"Community rugby league has undergone some changes in recent years placing a stronger emphasis on offering enjoyable, safe, community friendly participation opportunities in various formats such as our tag and tackle ready programs."

Palin said the aim of the festivals was to launch the 2022 junior rugby league season and get as many involved as possible.

“We want to make sure that every family has the opportunity to participate in rugby league," Palin said.

"The festivals provide a location where families and kids can engage with local community partners and participate in some fun on field activities, facilitated by our NRL game development team.

"It also provides parents the opportunity to find out more information from our local community rugby league team.”

There will be free non-contact clinics for youngsters aged five to 17, a variety of fun activities and information sessions on how community rugby league has changed with the implementation of the Player Development Framework

The Munchkin League team will run clinics for children under the aged between three and five at the festivals on the Gold Coast, Ipswich, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba (indicated with an * in the table below).

"We see these festivals as the 'pièce de résistance' in our recruitment drive period which will also include Roads to Regions, League Stars and school blitzes," Palin said.
