Steph Hancock: Will she or won't she?

It's indisputable this NRLW season was Steph Hancock's best by far.

With 17 games at the top grade to her name, plus 20 for the Jillaroos and 16 Queensland appearances, the question on everyone's lips now is... could this be the end of a legendary two decade-long career?

It's certainly hoped not, given what she has been able to produce for the Gold Coast Titans this season.

Having never scored a try in NRLW before, she chalked up four of them in the past month - finishing off with a double at the weekend against the Dragons.

Hancock crashes over

Outside of crossing the white stripe on several occasions, her stats has been through the roof, proving age is just a number for the 40-year-old champion.

In her six appearances, she started at prop in all but the season opener, amassing 13 tackle busts, eight offloads, 461 running metres - an average of 76 per match - and tackled at a very commendable 92 percent efficiency as a stronghold in the middle third.

Outside of her physical playing performance, her leadership on and off the field has been welcomed by the youthful squad the Gold Coast have, being the 'mother' to the side as she describes it.

Speaking at a recent NRLW members exclusive Q&A, Hancock said she was open to playing again and would spend the off-season to come to a final decision. She also said it would be up to Jamie Feeney to want her back... but the Titans coach will welcome her back with open arms.

"We'll have talks with everyone, but I just said to her... if she's playing well enough to go around again and if she wants to, I'm not going to deny that opportunity," Feeney said after the NRLW semi-final against the Dragons.

"She's playing good footy. She's 40, but doesn't really matter... two tries showed that today.

"She was unreal."

The women's rugby league pioneer will spend the off-season to decide whether she'll return, but there's no doubt every Gold Coast Titans and even general footy fan can't wait to see her don the mighty blue and gold at the end of the year for another barnstorming season in the NRLW.

The 2022 NRLW season is set to kick-off in August and the Titans are aiming for grand final glory after coming so close in their inaugural season. Show your support with an NRLW membership - on sale now ready for '22!
