Inspirational performance confirms Tino's Origin jersey

A heroic performance from Titans skipper Tino Fa’asuamaleaui against the Broncos on Friday night has rubber-stamped his Origin selection, which has been confirmed by Queensland Rugby League today.

The barnstorming forward ran for an incredible 271 metres over 23 carries – including 129 post-contact metres – as well as making 33 tackles in an inspiring 69 minutes on the field.

Indisputably one of the Gold Coast’s best on field this year, the 22-year-old has excelled with the ‘c’ next to his name, averaging 148 metres a game with 23 tackle breaks and six offloads to his name at the halfway point of the season.

This year will be the 22-year-old’s third Origin campaign after debuting in the 2020 series and there is added motivation for the inspirational leader after feeling like he didn't play his best footy last season whilst wearing Queensland colours.

“I really want to get that Maroons jersey because I feel like I owe Queensland. I didn’t play good last series and I let the state down. I’m hoping I’m in the mix to get picked and make sure I do a job for Queensland," Fa'asuamaleaui said.

“He (Maroons coach Billy Slater) is one of the best and that’s the reason I want to make Queensland because Billy is a part of it. I was down at the Storm with him and every time we trained, I looked up to him so much.’’

Fa’asuamaleaui will join Camp Maroon today, ahead of Game I in Sydney on Wednesday, June 8.
