The Origin connection motivating one Titan to shine this weekend

It's been a huge week for the Gilbert family.

Preparing to watch Tom make his Origin debut in the decider and play in the biggest game of his career to date, it's also a huge weekend for older sister Emily, as she gets ready to line-up for the Gold Coast Titans Netball team in the side's most important clash of their inaugural season.

Their last game of the regular season on Sunday is a pretty simple equation if the new franchise want to play finals... win and they're in, taking on the USC Thunder in a blockbuster matchup at Carrara Stadium.

For 25-year-old Gilbert, who is the side's goal defence, her brother's Queensland selection has really motivated her to lift for the clash, beginning from last weekend when she got the magical call, which came out of the blue right before her game last Sunday afternoon.

"It's actually kind of funny. He rang me Sunday before my game and he goes... 'I've got something to tell you'," Gilbert said.

"He never rings, so I was like.. 'oh, okay',  and he goes... 'I'm playing Origin'.

"I thought he was joking at first, and then thought he had just made the squad, but he's like... 'no, I'm in the 17'.

"I was so happy for him and it was amazing news, so that's how I found out."

It's no coincidence that Gilbert then went out and had an absolute blinder for the Titans to get a piece of the success, as they romped home to a 55-36 win over the Wildcats to setup a grandstand finish to qualify for the play-offs.

Especially given the competitiveness between the four Gilbert siblings, who have always had a healthy rivalry since the days of playing backyard footy growing up.

"I'm the only girl with three brothers, so it is very competitive," Gilbert said.

"Like playing backyard footy thing and being the only girl getting ganged up on, there is plenty of rivalry, but it's good."

Under the guise of Silver Ferns legend Temepara Bailey, it's been an incredibly successful first season for the new Titans Netball side and it all comes down to this massive finals-like clash this Sunday to decide whether the side will continue to make history past this week.

"Being a new franchise has been really exciting and being something new on the Coast," Gilbert said.

"This weekend, we we play our grand final pretty much... it's do or die.

"We win, we play semis... if we don't, we're finished, so we have to give everything this weekend and leave nothing out there."

Nearing close to a sell-out at Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium, a number of NRL and NRLW stars will be showing their support by being there this weekend, and tickets are still available to help cheer on the Titans as they face off against the Thunder in what is shaping up to be an epic contest.

"The Thunder are kind of like us and have had a bit of a rocky second part of the season," Gilbert said.

"When we're on, we're on and that's the same with them.

"They've got tall shooters and a tall defender at the end that will control and they have some speed in the middle.

"We're very similar, so it's going to be a really good contest."

The first centre pass will be at 2pm on Sunday, July 10.
