Record breaking crowd backs Titans to final whistle

The Gold Coast Titans inaugural season in Netball Queensland's Sapphire Series finished with a record breaking home game at Carrara.

The final round fixture against USC Thunder was officially a sell-out, with the Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium packed with almost 1300 people.

Across the three home game fixtures on the Coast, the Titans averaged almost 1200 people per game.

All three Titans home games broke Netball Queensland's record for the highest attendance at a regular season Sapphire Series game.

Titans Coach Temepara Bailey says the community support across the season has been fantastic.

"The support from our local Gold Coast community in our inaugural season has been unbelievable," the former Silver Ferns legend said.

"The atmosphere at our home games on the Coast was similar to that at a Suncorp Super Netball fixture.

"It is something that a lot of our players have never experienced before and I know it drove them to want to perform in front of such a passionate crowd.

"We want to make our community proud and I feel like we've been able to grow the Titans Legion because of the way our young team have played.

"To see so many young kids at our games, wanting photos and autographs from our players and to see them attending our school holiday clinics shows the impact that the Titans Netball program can have within our local community.

"Our team of young local talent missed the finals by one game this year, but they will learn a lot from the experience and have our eyes set on bringing trophies back to the Coast in the coming years."

The Titans finished with a 7-7 record in their inaugural Sapphire Series season.

While the Sapphire team have finished, the Titans Ruby Series team were successful in securing a finals spot and will now represent the Coast over the next three weeks as they strive to reach a maiden grand final.
