New recruit's magical play ahead of exciting new challenge with Titans

Gold Coast Titans NRLW new recruit Emily Curtain couldn't be joining the club at a better time.

Hailed a hero after not only converting the penalty goal from out-wide in extra-time, the 20-year-old kicked the championship-winning field goal in Saturday's Harvey Norman NSW Women's Premiership for the Wests Tigers, allowing the young half to drive up to the Coast on Sunday morning with plenty of confidence.

"It was 14-14 at fulltime, and then they scored on the halftime siren of extra-time to make it 20-14 and then we scored on the siren at the end of extra-time," Curtain explained.

"I had to take a kick from about the tramline, just in from the sideline to equal the game and the pressure on that was pretty high.

"That went over and then we went into golden point. We were going set-for-set for a while and then the Sharks made an error and we just capitalised on it.

"I got Jess Sergis to make a quick run and get quick play the ball and then the ball came straight to me and I slotted it from about 25 out."

A once in a lifetime dream to kick premiership-winning field goal in a match, it's actually the second time in the young playmakers career that she's come up with such a deft kick.

"When I was younger playing in the Tarsha Gale Cup, I actually slotted one from about 35 out to get us into the grand final qualifier, but this moment is still pretty surreal," Curtain said.

Formerly with Parramatta for the 2021 NRLW season, Curtain opted to join the Titans this season to challenge herself and expand her horizons.

"Coming up, it gives me the opportunity to be able to get out of my comfort zone, meet new people and meet new friends," Curtain said.

"Obviously, I'll be living away from home so that's something that I'm looking forward to, starting a new journey and hopefully going well in this competition.

"I'm really keen to get stuck into training and work our way through pre-season and then into our first game against the Dragons at WIN Stadium."

The 2022 NRLW season is not far away and the Titans are aiming for grand final glory after coming so close in their inaugural season. Show your support with a NRLW membership - on sale now ready for '22!
