Voicemail the saviour to deliver Pelite green and gold delight

Next time Evania Pelite takes a nap, it's guaranteed she'll be triple checking her phone isn't on silent and her volume is turned up to the max before dozing off.

Why?! Because she happened to miss one of the most exciting calls of her career, telling the Titans excitement machine she was off to the United Kingdom with the Jillaroos.

"I actually was asleep and I missed all the phone calls," Pelite admitted to titans.com.au.

"I guess didn't I didn't have to tell anybody [when I got the call] because I think everyone found out before I did."

No stranger to the green and gold, wearing the coveted colours since she was 17, playing in a World Cup will be a totally new ball game for the 27-year-old.

First making her national debut in 2013 at the Amsterdam Women's Sevens, the former Rugby Sevens star went on to win a gold medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016 before claiming silver back on home soil at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games two years later.

Since calling time on her rugby union career and making the full-time switch to the 13-player game after 2020, she has never had the opportunity to represent the Jillaroos yet due to the worldwide pandemic, but can't wait to don her national jersey again.

'It's always a huge privilege': Pelite honoured to wear green and gold

"It's a huge honour to be able to put on the green and gold and representing your country is always a massive privilege," she said.

"It's an immense honour to represent not only myself, but my family and my club here the Titans as well as this country.

"I love getting out there wearing that jersey and I'm really excited to be able to go over there and be part of the Jillaroos."

Having plenty of time to adjust after swapping the Gilbert for a Steeden, the one thing Pelite hasn't done since making the permanent switch is cement 'her position' on the field - swapping between fullback and centre across seasons and teams.

"I've played a couple positions now, but I haven't really cemented my spot in a certain position," she said.

"It'll be interesting to work under Brad and see where he sees me fitting into his squad but I'm happy to play wherever he puts me.

"He's floated a couple of other positions out there, but we'll just see once we get into camp."

With the World Cup tipped to be one of the closest to-date, the side the Gold Coast members' MVP is most excited to face off against is New Zealand, which will also feature five of her NRLW teammates in their squad.

"The Kiwis are a strong side already, we know that, but to come up against girls that we've trained with all year, that'll be cool," Pelite said.

"Players like Georgia Hale... she has been incredible for us this season, so it'll be nice to see her representing her country as well."

Pelite will link up with fellow Titans Lauren Brown and Shannon Mato and enter Australian camp later this month, before heading to the UK ahead of their first match against the Cook Islands on Wednesday, November 2.
