Change of scenery motivates Randall to bring good energy in new colours

Things happen pretty fast in rugby league... just ask Chris Randall.

On Monday night he was sitting at home in Newcastle when he got the phone call to say he was Gold Coast bound. By first thing Tuesday morning, he was in his car up the Pacific Highway en route to join his brand new team.

There was no rest for the wicked either, with the 26-year-old welcomed to Parkwood with an intense pre-season training session on Wednesday.

Despite the frantic 48 hours, there is absolutely no regrets from the dummy-half who is excited for the new challenge of being part of the Titans squad.

"I'm very excited. It's a nice new change for me," he said to Channel 9 Gold Coast.

"It was literally Monday afternoon when it all happened, so I went into [Newcastle] training on Tuesday morning and said goodbye to the boys and then quickly packed a bag and drove up here Tuesday.

"I got here on Tuesday night a was then straight into training on Wednesday morning.

"It's all happened pretty quick, but I'm super excited to get settled in and start enjoying the Gold Coast lifestyle."

Born and bred in Newcastle, the fresh start and new challenge is what the newcomer is relishing most about his new move north of the Tweed, with the new deal also securing his playing future until at least the end of 2024.

"I am excited for a new change and a new challenge and I just wanted to get out of my comfort zone and test myself," Randall explained.

"I'm a Newcastle boy and have been in Newcastle my whole life, so I just saw it as a good opportunity and a good life experience to come up and challenge myself here on the Gold Coast.

"It was an extra year on my contract as well."

Whilst it's understood fellow new recruit Sam Verrills will get first crack at hooking duties come Round 1 of the new season against the Wests Tigers, Randall has declared he hasn't made the move to just play Queensland Cup, hoping he can play a pivotal role in tandem with the premiership-winning rake.

"I want to come and just do my best, rip in, bring good energy and try and bring some good standards around training," he said.

"Hopefully Justin is a fan of me and likes me enough to put me in the team.

"I only want to play first grade. Coming up here, I just want to give it my best and play as much first grade as I can.

"Even with Sam fit, I'd like to push for a spot on the bench, but we'll see how it goes."

The Legion will also be excited to know the ultimate goal of being that first team to bring a premiership to the Gold Coast is firmly on the 29-gamer's radar like the rest of the Titans squad, excited with the immense talent that is part of his new side's roster.

"I think when you look at the team on paper, it's such a good squad" Randall said.

"As soon as the interest came up, I had a good look and from one to 17 and even the young boys coming through now that I'm here seeing them, the squad as a whole is pretty healthy and I think adding Kieran Foran into the mix as well with his experience.. we're definitely on the right track.

"It's been a pretty tough pre-season so far for me. I'm only two days in, so I can see good things coming and hopefully I'm a part of that too."
