Future Titans ready for Newcastle clash in Coffs Harbour

The next generation of Gold Coast talent will be in action this weekend as the Future Titans face off against Newcastle in Coffs Harbour.

Both male and female Under 17 and 19 academies will take on the Knights in a Super Saturday of rugby league, which also sees the Northern Rivers Titans in action for the first time in 2023.

The occasion will be particularly important for director of female rugby league Karyn Murphy, with NRLW development contracts on the line for players who have excelled in their time as part of the Titans Academy.

"It's definitely exciting for them to put on an NRLW jersey for the Titans and go down and play another NRLW team in the Knights," she said.

"They're really looking forward to that and it really shows the girls there is a pathway, linking them with a potential NRLW development contract."

Gold Coast elite player development manager Jamie McCormack is excited for the upcoming clashes for the male program with the two games a testament to the hard work put in over the last few months.

"No matter whether they're 15, all the way through to 19 years of age; if they're contracted, they're doing some form of pre-season with us here at Parkwood," he said.

"The boys have come in anywhere from three to four nights a week leading into our trial, so the boys will be prepared really well.

"After Newcastle, our Under 17s will then backup and play the Brisbane Broncos Under 17s.

"It's exciting times and a reward off the back of a lot of hard work over the hot summer months."

Further details on this weekend's upcoming trials will be available later this week.
