Injury report: Young prospect ruled out for season

Rising star Ben Liyou has been dealt a devastating blow, rupturing his ACL at Titans pre-season training recently.

Whilst not officially joining the top 30 squad until 2024, the barnstorming forward is at the Gold Coast on a full-time train-and-trial deal this year, and was due to spend the season training with the club whilst playing in the Hostplus Cup ahead of his upgrade.

Titans head of physical performance Cameron Ferguson confirmed the worst possible news for the 22-year-old on Thursday.

"It's really unfortunate for Ben, going down in a simulated drill with scans confirming he's ruptured his ACL. He'll be going under the knife in a week's time," he said.

In other injury news, Josiah Pahulu and Oskar Bryant have returned to training with the main squad after completing off-feet conditioning prior to Christmas.

With the pair both still young in their careers, the high performance team took a cautious approach in their training loads and modified their regime to best suit their needs.

Patrick Herbert and Aaron Booth are progressing well in their respective recoveries from ACL surgery with Herbert completing a number of introductory field runs; meanwhile there are no concerns for playmakers Kieran Foran and AJ Brimson despite the dynamic duo spending some time training away from the main group in separate drills.

The pair have had their training programs modified to put them in the best possible shape to obtain peak performance and are fully fit and firing, ready for selection in the upcoming trial matches which kick-off in just over a week.
