Affiliate wrap: Burleigh, Tweed go down in tough contests

It was a tough weekend for both Titans affiliates in the Hostplus Cup with both the Burleigh Bears and Tweed Seagulls losing their respective matches in Round 12.

At Cbus Super Stadium, the Bears toiled hard in their top of the table quest against Souths Logan, but it was the Magpies who prevailed 36-22 at full-time.

Although, a shining light in the clash was Titans flyer Ken Maumalo, who finished an 80-minute performance with two tries, 160 running metres, two line breaks, three tackle breaks and two offloads.

Thomas Mikaele got through a solid stint in his second game back from injury, making 140 metres and 24 tackles across 50 minutes on field.

The Bears will next host the Norths Devils at Burleigh on Saturday.

In the other match in Papua New Guinea, the Hunters were too strong for the Tweed Seagulls, winning 34-18 in a dominant display.

It was tough going for the Titans affiliate, who would be unhappy with the number of errors they made in the contest, only completing at 59 percent.

The Seagulls will have a great chance to bounce back from two straight losses when they meet the Capras at Piggabeen on Saturday.
